CONTEXT
Over the past two years at the BRIT School, I have learned a lot about the music industry, from music business, to music journaling, to the history of music, performing, songwriting and so much more. For my Final Major Project, I want to showcase my passion for music and visual arts in one project, by producing an EP, single and music video. Each song within the EP will also be paired with a Spotify Canvas - a short, continuous, 3-8 second video of visuals that represents each song.
The past 11 units of the UAL course have allowed me to develop my understanding within the music industry, and the various different elements within it, such as music production and performance, writing, research, comprehension, planning, evaluating and executing tasks. I have gained both professional and personal experience throughout the course. The course has also given me the opportunity to better understand the industry and which specific areas of it I would like to pursue. So, when deciding what I would like to produce for my end-of-year project, I chose an EP with visuals.

PLANNING

ACTION PLAN
As part of our project, we were tasked with meticulously planning our project, mapping out what we would do and when to make sure we were on track to completing our projects for the deadline. In my action plan, I colour-coded - red as the incomplete ones, blue as the revised actions and green as new actions.

RISK ASSESSMENT
We also had to plan out any risks that we may encounter during our project. At the beginning of the project, we wrote out any possible risks and then reviewed them as the project went along. We also had to rank their probability, impact and detectability. These individual ranks would then have a calculated rating, indicating how important each risk is.
PROCESS
This whole project was split up into four sections: Practical, Problem Solving, Research and Evaluation, which we then logged using Google Slides. Below is a PDF version of these slides (and therefore some files in the PDF may not be interactive).
PRACTICAL
Practical elements of the project, such as songwriting, photoshoots, editing or performing. This talks about what happened and who/what was involved.

RESEARCH
Forms of primary and secondary research aiding with my project. This is detailed exploration surrounding visual arts, marketing and music making.
EVALUATION
Reflecting on my practical logs, and using this reflection to improve on myself throughout the project. This evaluates elements of my project that went well and what I could improve on.

OUTCOME
At the end of the project, I recorded three songs: 'in a world', 'unlove me' and 'stuck'. I also created a demo for 'repeating old mistakes', which I will record later in the summer. 'unlove me' and 'stuck' also need some more producing, but so far, I believe that the EP is coming along successfully. Throughout the project, I have created visual art to go alongside these songs, which I plan on using later in the year as a Spotify Canvas, so users can match visuals to the song being played. I have also completed my Album Cover, which I made inspired by oil paintings and the textures found within those types of paintings. I also learned how to grow and market myself as an artist, both on social media and by performing at events. From this project, I will continue developing this EP with what I have learned, and hopefully will release 'Conversations' later in the year, in Autumn.
